Vietnam has 6 airlines but no airline specializes in transporting goods by specialized aircraft.
While some airlines are still struggling to wait for licensing, a "young" airline has "quickly" announced cooperation to establish the first specialized cargo airline - Vietravel Airlines Cargo (VUAir Cargo) . It is known that VUAir Cargo is the result of cooperation between Vietravel Airlines (Vietravel Airlines), which has just officially signed a cooperation agreement with Asean Cargo Gateway Company (ACG).
It must be added that it is no coincidence that these two seemingly rival businesses "joined hands" to develop. According to experts, the minimum requirement for the number of aircraft is 30 for an airline to achieve break-even. Vietravel Airlines currently only owns 5 aircraft. Along with the cost burden for the staff needed to maintain flight operations, Vietravel Airlines was born in the middle of a pandemic, so this business witnessed losses in the passenger transport segment.
Meanwhile, ACG is a business that maintains hundreds of freighter flights amid the pandemic. It is known that ACG is also the result of a cooperative model between giants in the field of logistics. Perhaps because of this, VUAir Cargo is confident with its strengths in network - technology - the connection between domestic and international shippers with a different business model that will help promote efficiency and take advantage of advantages. strengths from both sides.
Although he did not specify the specific proportion of goods, General Director of Vietravel Airlines Vu Duc Bien also said that the airline is confident with its partners to "regain" the air cargo market share currently in the hands of airlines. foreign airlines. In particular, VUAir Cargo did not hesitate to announce its ambition to double the number of specialized aircraft each year.
In fact, the demand for goods transportation in the Vietnamese market is considered to be very "hot". In 2021, the output of transported goods will reach 1.3 million tons and is expected to reach more than 1.52 million tons in 2022, an increase of about 83 times compared to 1991 and 21.2% compared to 2019.
Recently, because the number of flights carrying passengers and goods has decreased sharply while transportation demand has increased, international freight rates have skyrocketed 3-4 times, even from time to time. In each market, freight prices increased 5-6 times compared to the time before the Covid-19 epidemic.
With aviation, Vietnam\'s international cargo transport market currently has 29 foreign airlines from 16 countries participating in operations. Meanwhile, the international cargo market share of Vietnamese airlines in the period 2020 - 2021 is only about 11%. The emergence of a cargo airline will contribute to promoting the growth of cargo transportation of Vietnamese airlines by 10-15%/year.
